Arapawa wool is a soft high bulking fibre which has lots of disorganised crimp. This yarn is spun woollen at the Wild Earth Mill in Christchurch.
Arapawa sheep grow a shortish staple wool which comes in a variety of natural colours. These sheep can be spotted or have patches of colour on their fleece. From browny greys to beige and cream. The rams have incredible curled horns and do fall prey to being kept for trophy hunting. There is a lovely flock of these sheep who have lived near my house for many years. Smaller than the average modern sheep, they are very shy, athletic but will run away and scatter when nervous. The lambs are adorable in their little spotted coats. If your interested in learning more about this historic New Zealand sheep have a read of a blog post I wrote a decade ago.

The wool dyes I use are surplus excess dyes from a commercial wool laboratory based in a large spinning mill in my town. This mill has been spinning New Zealand wool continuously since the late 1890's. Now it exclusively spins carpet wool yarns.
Handwash gently with a mild PH neutral detergent and cool water.
